Morimoto Asia is a new flagship restaurant in Disney Springs-formerly known as Downtown Disney. I personally love Chef Morimoto of Iron Chef America so I wanted to try out his new restaurant that opened in 2015. Here is my experience and thoughts on the the decor, food and beverage. AmbienceOne word describes the atmosphere of Morimoto Asia-STUNNING! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and modern with very clean lines and splashes of muted color throughout. Here is what you can expect to see when dining at Morimoto's. BeveragesAfter being around crowds all day, I can say that finding the perfect drink to accompany my meal was a top priority. They have a variety of specialty drinks, sake, beer and wine. Our waiter recommended the sake sangria which is served by the glass or by the crafe. Since there were two of us adults we opted for the crafe which made more sense cost wise at $34 versus $12 per glass. This was the perfect choice and I would certainly get it again after a long, hot day at Disney. It was very mild yet refreshing and paired well with all of the food that we ordered. FoodI definitely believe that I'm a little bit of a food snob. I like good tasting food and I'm not ashamed to talk about it. Morimoto Asia was a home run for me. The ambience and beverages are above par in my opinion but the real selling point is hands down the food. When we first arrived our waiter said that the restaurant is based on a Chinese style kitchen where the food comes out when it is ready and it does not sit under warming lights. He was absolutely correct. Items that we ordered last came out first and there was no sequencing to the order in which the food was brought out. This can get a little confusing because you are not sure what is coming next but it also adds to the excitement of the dishes. We tried three items that I consider "must haves" that I definitely recommend you try. 1. Morimoto Spare Ribs-delicious, fall off the bone tender ribs coated in a sweet chili glaze-sweet with a little bit of heat is such a heady combination. Just look at this picture. I think the picture says all that needs to be said about this delicious dish. 2. Morimoto Peking Duck-roasted duck which is deboned before it is brought to the table and is served with steamed flour pancakes that taste like tortillas with two dipping sauces. The duck was moist and outstanding. The picture is a little deceiving in my opinion. You receive alot more duck then what it looks like in the picture. The slices are fanned out in a circle and in the middle of the plate is a pile of chunks of duck and duck legs. It is a great choice for multiple people to eat. 3. Ramen-broth, noddles, roasted pork and mushrooms. Our waiter portioned out the broth and noodles into individual bowls. This is another great item to share. It was much larger of an item then I was expecting and delicious.. Downside Ultimately my experience at Morimoto Asia was excellent. However, there were a few small downsides to the meal. I wanted to go to Morimoto Asia for try two main dishes-the sushi and dim sum. Unfortunately, we ordered sushi but it was never delivered to our table. I think there was a miscommunication between our waiter and the sushi bar which was a huge disappointment since the sushi was the main reason why I selected to go to there. Hopefully I can blog again about Morimoto Asia and give you an in-depth sushi report next time. The dim sum was high on my list as well. We tried the Kakuni Pork Bao which is pork belly in steamed buns with lettuce and spicy mayo. I thought this dish could have been better. There was alot of steamed bun but not much pork. If they evened out the portion size this dish would be met my expectations. But it fell a little flat in my opinion. Also, before you go review the menu and prices. If you are going to sample multiple dishes, the cost adds up very quickly. So keep this in mind but it is worth the splurge.
Would I go to Morimoto Asia again? Absolutely! However, I hope they do not forget the sushi this time. Would I recommend to my fellow readers to try Morimoto Asia? Absolutely! Give it a try and let me know what you think of it. Don't forget to like our Facebook page for up to date blog posts, travel information and specials- https://www.facebook.com/premiertravelescapes/
